Homegrown Nederhorror

Lenteveld, unintentionally funny!

This home grown Dutch film, loosely, very loosely, resembling The Texas Chainsas Massacre, is a serious attempt at making a horror movie and completely unintentionally funny.

The story is this: a couple of friends are on their way to a festival in Germany. However after 10 minutes into the story it becomes clear that they probably won’t reach their destination. During a not to fluent converstation we find out that people are going missing in a place called Lenteveld, which coincidentally is the place their care happens to break down. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, or rather, in the middle of Lenteveld the youngsters seperate in order to get help. And then the exiting part of the film kicks in. The local serial killer, with the help of his mom and dad, hence the tagline ‘We like to keep it in the family’, starts hunting the youngsters down.

The acting is terrible, although, I've seen worse (see James Nguyen Birdemic if you don't believe me). The serial killer however gives a good enough creepy impression of a nut job. It probably helped that he didn't have to say a word during the entire film. Which brings me to the dialogue, which doesn't move the plot forward in a logical or probable way and the choices of the characters make even less sense. Examples of this are too numerous to mention!

This very low-budget movie takes a bit of patience to get through and misses the gore and self-reference I would've liked to have seen. Having said that, it is neatly made and kudos to the director and his crew for the lighting, sound and music. It has a nice ‘we made it with friends’ kinda feel to it and if you ever get bored and wanna see a low-budget Dutch 'nederhorror' movie, go see this one!
